Description

For Sale: Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4. 2L engine (1965), originally French. Model history: When it appeared, the Jaguar E-Type instantly established itself as a reference, relegating its rivals to another era, both technically and aesthetically. Introduced in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, it caused a genuine shock in the automotive world. Jaguar revealed a production car with unprecedented performance, radical design, and technology previously reserved for competition. The E-Type stood out with independent four-wheel suspension, disc brakes, monocoque chassis, and a refined cockpit combining a wood steering wheel, aluminium dashboard and bucket seats. Its fluid line is accentuated by the enclosed headlights, while the legendary XK engine, fed by three SU carburettors, developed exceptional power and performance for the time. Rapidly, the E-Type became the emblem of the marriage between sportiness and British elegance. Adopted by many personalities and regularly featured in cinema, it has established itself as a cultural as well as automotive icon, and remains today one of Jaguar’s most coveted models. From 1963, Jaguar raced the E-Type with the famous Lightweight E-Type, notably at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, illustrating the difficulty of turning a road-going model capable of nearly 240 km/ h into a race car. Produced in 5, 813 left-hand drive units, of which only 131 were delivered new in France, the E-Type 4. 2L Cabriolet is among the most sought-after versions. It benefits from a fully synchronised Jaguar gearbox, a more torquey engine, and improved comfort, making this variant a perfect compromise between performance, driving pleasure and modern usability. History of this Jaguar Type E 4. 2L Cabriolet for sale: This Jaguar Type E 4. 2L Cabriolet was new in France in May 1965. We found its trace in our archives in 2000, when it was acquired from a Belgian owner who had owned it since 1997. On that occasion, the car underwent a complete mechanical, bodywork and upholstery restoration in our workshops, carried out for its next owner, who kept it until 2005. It then changed hands in 2006, and again in 2008, when it remained in the possession of the same owner until 2019. Throughout this period, the Jaguar was serviced exclusively in our workshops. We are selling it to an owner in the north of France, who uses it regularly to this day. This is one of the very rare 131 French-origin Jaguar Type E 4. 2L Cabriolets, an example with clear and well-documented history. Bodywork: The body was restored in our workshops about 25 years ago and repainted in its British Racing Green colour. It is today in excellent condition, perfectly solid, with exemplary door and bonnet gaps. The paint offers a beautiful even patina, with no scratches or dents. The chrome is in perfect condition, including the bumpers and the wheels, which retain a very handsome shine. Upholstery: The interior was entirely redone in our workshops before the year 2000, in an elegant beige shade, and remains in excellent condition today. The black Alpaca fabric hood and the Ardurra beige trunk were also redone at the same time and are fully compliant. Engine: The engine was completely rebuilt in our workshops about 25 years ago and has received regular maintenance since. Oil pressure and compression are excellent. The engine runs smoothly with no vibrations and revs cleanly and evenly. Gearbox: Fitted with a fully synchronised four-speed manual gearbox, rebuilt at the same time as the engine. It operates flawlessly: gears engage smoothly, precisely and without hiccups. Running gear: The rear axle is stable, offering excellent handling. The car originally comes with four-disc brakes with power assist. The braking system was completely redone in our workshops, with four-piston callipers at the front and three-piston at the rear, ensuring efficient, powerful and perfectly aligned braking. This Jaguar is fitted with 6-inch wheels shod with Vredestein tyres, significantly improving handling while remaining faithful to the original spirit.
