Description
L’atelier des 1000 presents for sale this rare De Tomaso Pantera in a sleek, highly desirable configuration with this red colour and its black interior.
After Ferrari’s attempted buyout by Ford failed, the American manufacturer declared war in competition by developing the GT40, but for road-going models Ford decided in 1969 to team up with a Modena-based brand, providing technical assistance and its V8s. Thus, by buying 80% of De Tomaso’s shares, Ford helped develop the Pantera, which was unveiled at the New York Motor Show in 1970 with the aim of dethroning Ferrari.
Coached by the Italians, powered by the Americans, the recipe for this icon could only captivate the public.
It will entice at first glance enthusiasts of exceptional cars with its mere 1. 10 m height and that blade-like silhouette designed by Ghia, which had in fact been acquired in 1964 by De Tomaso.
The Pantera is a myth in its own right; Johnny, Elvis, and the famous racer Agostini have owned one.
Our example was imported in 2014; its current owner is one of our loyal clients who acquired it in 2018 from a friend. He has now decided to entrust it to us for sale after falling for a Ghibli.
A file of invoices accompanies the vehicle, some dating from factory delivery.
Rare: we have its service book and its identification card engraved.
The 351ci Cleveland V8 engine runs beautifully; it has received meticulous servicing and retains its full power.
The 5-speed manual ZF gearbox perfectly embodies the driving philosophy of this car: firm but effective. As for the clutch, it behaves well and shows no signs of wear.
The exhaust system is in good condition and lets you enjoy the V8’s sound in a raw but not ostentatious atmosphere.
The cooling system is in very good condition and equipped with fans larger than those on earlier series to ensure better cooling.
Power steering shows no play; the front suspension components were fully rebuilt in 2023.
Braking is perfectly effective and balanced.
The suspensions were replaced a few years ago, delivering excellent handling without being uncomfortable.
The original Campagnolo wheels are in good condition.
The paint is old but still presentable and retains its shine.
The bumpers and all chrome are in very good condition and gleaming.
The underbody is sound and well cared for, as you’d expect from the car and is, of course, free from perforating corrosion.
The interior is harmonious; the upholstery was redone in 2008 and the carpets replaced in 2015.
A Nardi steering wheel has been fitted and suits the car’s style perfectly; the original steering wheel is supplied.
All of the instrumentation is operational.
The vehicle is fitted with electric windows.
