The Mercedes-Benz SL R230 appeared in the early 2000s to succeed the iconic Mercedes-Benz SL R129, a model that became a benchmark among luxury roadsters.
With this new generation, Mercedes-Benz chose to push the concept of the grand, technologically advanced and comfortable convertible even further, capable of being used in all seasons.
The SL R230 thus premieres a retractable hardtop on this new generation, allowing the car to transform into a true coupé in seconds, offering the best of both worlds: the comfort of a coupé and the pleasure of a roadster.
It also introduced very advanced technologies for the time, such as the Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, an active hydraulic system that limits body movement and improves comfort and stability.
In its SL 600 version, the model reaches an even higher level with its impressive V12 biturbo, combining top-tier performance with exceptional smoothness.
On release, this convertible represented the best in luxury, technology and performance, making the SL one of the most accomplished roadsters on the market.
The SL 600 sits at the top of the “classic” SL R230 range, just below the AMG versions (SL55 and then SL65).
It prioritises absolute luxury, smoothness and the quiet power of its twin‑turbo V12, while offering performance nearly on a par with the AMG models.
Even today, it remains a reference for enthusiasts of large, powerful, elegant and technologically advanced convertibles.
