Description
Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Bertone
When the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1967, one thing was immediately clear: it wasn’t just a car. It was a genuine masterpiece – a fusion of Italian art, technique and passion transposed onto four wheels. Designed by Bertone, this model epitomises everything that makes Alfa Romeo fascinating: timeless elegance, pure sportiness and that famous brio – that spark only Italians know how to infuse into their cars.
History of the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Bertone – Series 1 – SSC659
This specific example of the Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Bertone, highly sought after in its early series, was first registered on 19 March 1969. Almost three decades later, in 1997, this classic entered the collection of an art historian, who drove it proudly along the Côte d’Azur – where the roads do full justice to such an automobile. In 2015, he entrusted the vehicle to a full concours‑level restoration with the renowned Alfa Classic Center (ACC) in Dortmund – a project whose scale can literally take your breath away when you consider the invoices and investments involved.
Bodywork
The bodywork was completely restored to concours standards. Particular attention was paid to the perfection of lines, edges, gaps and the quality of opening and closing the panels.
The shell was stripped by water jet, then treated after restoration with a KTL (cataphoresis) coating.
Suspension & Braking
• Front end equipped with adjustable upper wishbones (GTA specification)
• Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs at front and rear, ACC-specific tuning
• Limited‑slip differential (10/ 43) with reinforced half‑shafts (Montreal type)
• Reinforced rear suspension mounts and bushings
• Front brakes with 4‑piston ATE calipers
Engine & Transmission
The engine was completely rebuilt and optimised:
• Headwork with enlarged valves and optimised runners
• High‑compression pistons
• Lightweight rods, crankshaft and flywheel
• Weber 45 carburettors
• Additional oil cooler and electric fan
The aim was not only to increase power (approx. 140 hp) but also to achieve substantial torque available very early. A stainless steel exhaust system with tubular manifolding and enlarged diameter completes the package. The gearbox was fully overhauled (bearings and synchros) and converted from a floor‑mounted to a dog‑leg non‑synchromesh shift arrangement.
Interior
The cockpit was completely rebuilt:
• Modern soundproofing throughout the cabin and boot
• Leather upholstery with new foam
• Alcantara headliner
• Custom black boucle carpets, including in the boot
• Wooden dashboard, lacquered in 12 coats
Additional details
• All instruments restored and recalibrated
• Oil temperature gauge added in original style
• 15” bespoke wheel set in a BBS‑style
The restoration was completed in 2019. Total investment, including the purchase of the base vehicle, amounts to well over €250, 000. The condition of this Alfa Romeo is simply outstanding, and the asking price only partly reflects the investments made. A complete photographic book documenting the restoration is included.
About a year ago, this exceptional vehicle was sold to a dedicated collector in Germany. For personal reasons, the current owner decided to part with it and entrusted us with handling the sale.
The vehicle currently carries German deregistration documents, including a vintage‑vehicle registration.
Conclusion
The Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Bertone remains one of the most beautiful expressions of Italian automotive design – a model that seduces as much with its timeless aesthetics as with its authentic and dynamic driving experience. This coupé is far more than a classic. It is an expression of style, temperament and an era when driving was truly an art of living. Owning such a vehicle today is not only possessing a piece of automotive history but also fully living the dolce vita on the road.
