Produced in the early 60s, the Porsche 356 embodies the original DNA of the Stuttgart marque. In this Karmann Hardtop configuration, it offers an elegant and rare silhouette, blending coupé purity with the spirit of a cabriolet. This model, originally intended for the American market, today represents a particularly attractive opportunity for collectors seeking a seriously restored example.
This specimen has undergone a complete restoration, carried out with genuine attention to detail. The bodywork has been stripped, treated in depth, with replacement of necessary elements (sills, panel adjustments, structural work), then protected against corrosion. It now presents in a slate-grey colour (ref. 6001) to stunning effect, with alignments and presentation of remarkable quality.
The underbody has benefited from anti-corrosion treatment, and no major structural faults are to be reported. The chromes have been restored and all openings show coherent alignment with period standards.
Inside, the upholstery has been fully redone in red imitation leather, offering an elegant contrast to the exterior shade. The carpets, trim and headlining have also been replaced. The dashboard, instruments and original gauges have been serviced and are fully functional.
Mechanically, this 356 B is equipped with its flat-four engine of 1582 cm³ developing 60 horsepower, running cleanly and reliably. The Type 616/ 1 engine has undergone a complete overhaul (piston rings, bearings, ignition and carburation overhaul), guaranteeing optimal operation. The four-speed manual gearbox operates correctly, with a new clutch.
The running gear has also been overhauled with replacement of numerous components (silent blocks, ball joints, adjustable Koni shocks), ensuring a healthy road behaviour faithful to the original spirit. The braking system has been modernised with a front-disc kit, delivering notable gains in efficiency.
Imported from the United States, this Porsche now benefits from a classic vehicle registration and a full appraisal file.
