Initial MG P model
Two-tone: Oxford & Cambridge Blue
Pre-war charm and modesty
The MG P-Type was a two-model series produced only from 1934 to 1936. The P was the slightly more powerful successor to the J-Type and the little brother produced during the same years as the N-Type. In addition to broadening the range, the P-Type brought a mechanical advance in the form of an updated camshaft and a similar crankshaft.
Despite its outward similarity to its predecessor, the P-Type brought with it a lot of innovation. It was fitted with a brand-new engine, an efficient 847 cc inline four-cylinder engine powering a new three-bearing crankshaft. The J-Type predecessor had only a two-bearing crankshaft. An extra bearing was added, allowing the engine to rev higher and therefore produce more power, reaching a top speed of 119 kilometres per hour.
In addition to the new crankshaft, MG promised that the P-Type was adorned with around a hundred new features and effective solutions. The press celebrated it at its first unveiling, which positively impacted the sales figures of this pioneering innovator. In total, nearly 2, 500 of the initial PA model and the PB variant which appeared a year later were built together.
According to MG, the P-Type offered all the features a race driver of the era would want as standard, making it highly sought after. Race drivers did not choose it by accident, which fueled its success on the race circuits.
MG PA
The MG PA was the first of the two models in MG's P series. It served as a pioneer that kicked off a mechanical revolution for the reasons mentioned above. However, the mechanical revolution wasn't the only reason for its success, because a glance at the PA leaves an almost touching impression. It is a true head-turner, a crowd favourite, even for those who are not car enthusiasts.
The PA was available both as a roadster and a fixed-head coupé, and it was produced until 1935. About two thousand PA were built, and some of them can still be found in collections, making it highly desirable.
