Originating from Modena, Sergio Sighinolfi, an excellent official driver for Stanguellini, then a Ferrari test driver, also built sports cars in his workshop on Via Sabbatini in Modena. In 1948, he built his first sports car, coachbuilt by Campana, from Modena, and driven by Antonio Morandini, from Cremona. This car was then fitted with an Ermini engine and finished 42nd in the overall classification of the Mille Miglia in 1951. In the years that followed, Sighinolfi constructed further race cars and, in 1953, from a tubular chassis built by specialist Nardi, created a 750 cm³ sports car equipped with a BMW engine derived from a motorcycle, developed by Nardi. This car made its debut at the XXXVIIth Targa Florio, driven by Sighinolfi himself. The car was then sold in Sicily and again raced in the 1954 Targa Florio with Pasquale Placido, the Catane-Etna (1953) with Giovanni Canale and with the same Sicilian driver also in the Palermo-Monte Pellegrino (1953), the Trullo d’Oro (1953), the Giro delle Calabrie (1954) and the Coppa San Rizzo.
The specimen we offer you is precisely the one presented in this article. Built in 1953 by Carrozzeria Campana on a Nardi chassis, this sports car is in perfect restorable condition, both in terms of bodywork and mechanics, and is ready to participate in events such as the Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia. Its 40 hp two-cylinder BMW engine at 6, 000 rpm, prepared by Nardi, and its lightweight aluminium Campana body allow it to reach a top speed of 150 km/ h.
The car is visible in our exhibition hall in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
