Description
The Ferrari BB (which stands for Berlinetta Boxer) was produced between 1973 and 1984. It was the first Ferrari equipped with a flat-12 engine mounted in a mid-engine layout, replacing the front-mid Daytona. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti during his time at Pininfarina, this car represented a fairly significant shift for Ferrari. A mid-engine road car was considered too difficult to drive for normal road use, which is why it took engineers many years to convince Enzo Ferrari to adopt this configuration for a road car. Thanks to the growing success of mid-engine racing cars, the BB was finally developed in the early 70s. After 11 years of production, the BB/ BBi was replaced by the Testarossa.
The car we offer is a magnificent, original car in impeccable, unrestored condition. It has an unusual history: it was bought new in Geneva by a Russian client who registered it with a Swiss plate but never took delivery because he wanted to gift it to someone. However, this plan did not come to fruition and the car stayed at the dealer unused until 1984. Put back on the market, it attracted the attention of a Lugano-based haulier. He used it very little and sold it to a second owner, a Swiss collector. The latter used the Ferrari sparingly and kept this pure race-bred specimen in perfect, original condition. In 2015, the Ferrari passed into the possession of its third and final owner.
This BBi shows only 8, 745 km on the odometer and presents in impeccable original condition. The interior is like new, with beige seats featuring impeccably grey stripes. Even the original plastic coverings, as delivered, are still present on the door sills. The Rosso Corsa exterior sports a beautiful, defect-free paint job and the wheels are entirely free of dents and marks. The front boot still houses the original tools (also in their plastic wrap) and the spare wheel, and all books and manuals are also present. It is extremely rare to find this type of Ferrari with such low mileage and in such well-preserved condition. It can be stated without risk that this is one of the best 512 BBis currently on the market, if not the best.
