Description

“Power, beauty and soul”
Aston Martin DB2/ 4 of 1954
FIA HTP until 2031
Eligible for virtually all races, including the Mille Miglia

Designed by Frank Feeley and launched in 1953, the Aston Martin DB2/ 4 was a masterful blend of elegance and performance, embodying the marque’s commitment to both road comfort and the spirit of competition. Designed as a more practical evolution of the DB2, the DB2/ 4 featured a 2+2 seating arrangement and a hatch, innovative for the time, while preserving the Lagonda inline six engine of 2. 6 litres, later 2. 9 litres. Its aluminium lightweight body and robust chassis made it a favourite candidate for both circuit racing and rallying.

Journalists and drivers admired the DB2/ 4 for its versatility. It was a car that could comfortably take part in a race on Sunday and carry a family on Monday, a rare duality that made it highly appreciated by enthusiasts. Its success in racing and rallying highlighted Aston Martin’s technical prowess and the DB2/ 4’s status as a true all-rounder in the history of motorsport.

The car we are offering carries its registration number “STC522” since delivery on 10 February 1954 and is accompanied by an original green logbook detailing all previous owners since 1970. It had a quiet life until 1980, when it was bought by John Curtis Chamberlain of Leicester, who converted it, in accordance with regulations, to participate in Aston Martin Owners Club hill climbs and on-track events, where he earned a dozen podiums. Under his ownership the car featured in numerous articles in Classic Car Mechanics magazine.

In 2000, the car was sold to its current owner, a French gentleman driver who brought it up to FIA standards and has participated several times in the Tour Auto and the Le Mans Classic. The car is supplied with a FIA-valid HTP until 2031 and would be perfect for events such as the Mille Miglia, the Goodwood Revival Fordwater Trophy, the RAC Woodcote Trophy and many other historic racing series.

Under the current ownership, the car has always been maintained by specialist Eric Perou Garage, who built and installed a new racing engine, a new gearbox and carried out all maintenance between events. The car has recently undergone a full service and the installation of new FIA-compliant seats and harnesses.
