Description

The Maserati A6 GCS with the elegant berlinetta (coupe) bodywork by Pininfarina was designed by the young Aldo Bravarone in 1953 and shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1954. It was the last Maserati designed by the legendary Turin coachbuilder Pininfarina.

The idea of the Berlinetta or coupe was born when the Roman Maserati dealer, Guglielmo Dei, sought to meet the demand of his sporting clientele who wanted more comfort, especially in bad weather.
After the war, the new Maserati technical department, headed by chief designer Giulio Alfieri, worked on several racecar projects at the Modena factory, among which – and crucial for the future success of the company A6 – A6 G, A6 GCM, A6 GCS (Ghisa Corsa Sport) and the A6 G/ 54 series, sold to privateers and performing in the 1. 5 and 2. 0-litre classes on circuits and road races.
From 1947, road-going versions of the small Maserati six-cylinder A6 were built. The bodies were all open, of the “Barchetta” type, and were designed and built by Allemano, Bertone, Fantuzzi, Fiandri e Malagoli, Frua, Ghia, Pininfarina, Vignale and Zagato.

Only four examples – all slightly different – of the A6 GCS Berlinetta (coupe) were built, all of which exist today and are among the most sought-after Maseratis. Some will say that the A6 GCS is among the most beautiful cars the world has ever seen.

Specifications.
The engine of the A6 GCS is a 2. 0-litre inline six with a iron block, dry-sump lubrication and an alloy cylinder head with two overhead camshafts, twin ignition and three horizontal Weber carburettors. The gearbox is four-speed.
The aluminium bodywork is mounted on a tubular lattice frame.
The front suspension is double wishbone while at the rear a rigid axle with coil springs.
The large Rudge-Whitworth Milano (Borrani) 16-inch wire wheels housed enormous drum brakes.
Power is estimated at around 170 bhp at 7, 300 rpm, allowing the Maserati A6 GCS to reach a top speed of 235 km/ h.

This example of the Maserati A6 GCS is an extremely well-made replica, built to exacting standards by the highly regarded Pur Sang company in Argentina. Known for building exact replicas of rare vintage sports cars, their work is recognised worldwide. Among those who have acknowledged their work is Jay Leno, a car enthusiast, who owns several Pur Sang builds in his collection.
The Maserati A6 GCS is one of only two built by Pur Sang and was delivered in 2020.

In its current ownership, the car has required a great deal of time to optimise and refine its driving capabilities and it now handles like the thoroughbred race car its maker intended in 1953.
The Maserati A6 GCS is registered as a 1953 model on the current German (EU) registration papers. A previous American registration document is also present.
