We are pleased to offer you this fantastic Lancia Fulvia Zagato 1. 3 S Series 2, first registered on 19/ 12/ 1972. Its 1, 298 cc V4 engine developing 66 kW (90 bhp), paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, has covered 97, 141 km.
The vehicle is originally Belgian and was subsequently imported to France in 2015.
The Sport bodyside originated from an idea by Elio Zagato, who had already created very interesting sporting cars. The base is that of the Fulvia Coupé, but E. Zagato designed a more modern, aerodynamically styled body, incorporating very advanced styling solutions.
The car was assembled near Zagato's Milan facilities.
The Fulvia Sport is lighter than the Coupé (by around 45 kg), thanks to the use of aluminium in the bodyshell, making it more delicate. This very 'detail' was, moreover, what hampered its racing career, being more costly to race than a Fulvia Coupé.
Nevertheless, Zagato built a run of 27 Fulvia Sport Competizione cars, mainly for the Italian Championship (notably a 1600 Proto class win, 11th overall, at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1969 with ***** and Maglioli at the wheel).
The 1200, as well as the early 1300s, were equipped with an all-aluminium bodyshell, whereas later 1300 and 1300S 1st series models settled for opening panels for reasons of rigidity and cost reduction.
With the arrival of the second series, the Zagatos lost the aluminium, even on movable parts, in favour of cheaper and easier-to-produce steel. There are, however, a few transition Zagatos (600 units termed Series 1 and 1/ 2) that retain aluminium opening panels with the look of a 1. 3S Series 1 (including the side-opening of the bonnet), fitted with the mechanics of the second series.
