Classic Car Design presents this 1990 BMW 325iX, a model with a rather rare pedigree: this example comes with an exceptional equipment list including automatic ZF transmission, air conditioning, cruise control, sunroof, airbag, leather upholstery, sport seats, four electric windows, honeycomb wheels and the Shadow Line pack—a true long-distance cruiser! It records under 100, 000 km on the odometer. Originating from Switzerland, it has had only one owner there for 29 years. It was imported into France in 2019 by its second owner and is now a true third hand.
ExTERIOR: The bodywork is remarkable for a car over thirty-five years old, with no scratches or dents. It is completely free of any corrosion traces. A major feature on a collectible E30, it remains in its original configuration with no ‘tuning’ whatsoever.
INTERIOR: The ergonomics are typical of BMWs of the era—designed for the driver with a cockpit oriented towards him. The blue upholstery is overall very well preserved. The dashboard is not cracked. There are occasional scuffs or signs of wear. We are pleased to note a highly desirable option: sport seats. The headlining is excellent, and the sunroof operates perfectly.
The M20B25 engine runs with the roundness and velvet smoothness typical of inline-six engines from the marque. The automatic gearbox shifts smoothly, and the all‑wheel drive system operates without noise or suspicious vibrations. The suspension, brakes and steering are up to the mark. The only deviation from originality is the rear silencer by Scorpion.
Within the E30 family, the 325iX holds a special place. The famous 2. 5-litre inline-six is paired with permanent all‑wheel drive, a real rarity for sporty saloons in the 90s aside from Audi. With a power distribution biased to the rear wheels, it preserves BMW’s cherished ‘RWD’ character. Produced in only a few tens of thousands of units, it is one of the rarest variants of the model. This example ticks all the boxes for a collector that can be used daily: moderate mileage, extraordinary equipment and all‑wheel drive.
