Description
"May my enemies live long enough to see my success."
The Ferrari Mondial, launched in 1980, succeeds the 308 GT4. It retains the same mid-mounted V8 engine, but on a longer wheelbase. Instead of Bertone's bold styling, the Mondial designed by Pininfarina presents itself as an elegant Italian symphony of courtesy: better equipped, more comfortable, with proper 2+2 seating (which Ferrari recognises as particularly suitable for children and smaller adults), while still achieving a top speed of 225 km/ h.
The six-cylinder version — also known as the 'QV' — introduced from 1982, features four valves per cylinder instead of two. The power of the 2. 9-litre V8 thus rises from 214 to 240 bhp thanks to this upgrade. The final touch we secretly awaited.
The Mondial 8 is still regarded today as one of the most reliable, easy-to-maintain and practical Ferraris. And that is excellent news. Is the Mondial a real Ferrari? Absolutely, and especially the Quattrovalvole version. As soon as you step aboard, you sense that everything is geared towards the driver, and the V8 behind you produces a magnificent sound. At start-up, you can hear the coolant circulating and the fuel pump buzzing. Ingegneria Emozionale!
The prancing horse of Maranello develops 240 bhp, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox perfectly matched. The Mondial QV is becoming increasingly desirable today. There is this idea: step aboard, don’t miss this opportunity, or you might regret it later…
And ours? In the best possible configuration: Rosso Corsa with beige leather interior. Largely in its original paint. It has travelled only 20, 000 miles, making it a genuine collectors’ item.
As Enzo himself once said: “Too much is never enough.” We agree wholeheartedly, and this one should therefore join your collection.
Do you already have one? Not enough yet? Then see you very soon!
