Description
Daimler Double Six V12 6. 0L SWB of 1995
The last British V12 — mechanically rebuilt in depth
PRESENTATION
SAS MVC offers for sale this 1995 Daimler Double Six, registered on 17 January 1995, the ultimate expression of 1990s British automotive luxury. The most refined version of the Jaguar XJ, the Double Six is distinguished by an even more polished presentation and, above all, by the legendary 6. 0‑litre V12 — the last V12 ever fitted to a mass-produced British saloon.
This SWB example (wheelbase 2, 870 mm), dressed in British Racing Green with cream leather upholstery and walnut burr woods, belongs to the X305 generation, the last evolution of the platform to receive this engine. Total production did not exceed 3, 158 units — a figure that confers rarity to this car that the years will only reinforce.
THE ENGINE
The original engine having given way — presumably following overheating caused by a faulty expansion tank cap — the owner opted for a definitive solution: a full block replacement. A used 6. 0L V12 with 140, 170 km, mileage guaranteed on the invoice, was selected and fitted by La Passion des Anglaises in Nomexy (Vosges), an independent specialist recognised in the field.
The original fuel rail was re-fitted to the new block to ensure full compatibility. The entire mechanical ancillary system was simultaneously brought up to standard: water pump, new engine mounting bushes, belts and tensioner pulley replaced, cooling system fully refurbished (17 litres of fresh fluid, hoses and cap replaced), power steering fully sealed, air conditioning overhauled (aluminium radiator redone, full recharge — functional), front bearings set, Motul 15W40 synthetic oil with new filter. Test drives were conclusive.
Transparency point — mileage: the speedometer reads 128, 150 km, reflecting the chassis mileage. The replacement engine totals 140, 170 km, guaranteed by invoice. The full documentation is available for consultation.

EXTERIOR CONDITION
The British Racing Green paint presents a good overall shine. A few cosmetic imperfections consistent with age: light scuffs on the flanks, a small paint chip on the bonnet, signs of wear on the rear bumper. The front bumper has undergone professional repair (glass fibre repair, filler, primer, paint and varnish). Overall, an honest body with no nasty surprises.
INTERIOR CONDITION
A strong point of this example. The cream leather upholstery is in very good overall condition. The driver's seat has undergone a full refurbishment by Sellerie du Mantois (October 2025). The burr walnut veneers are well preserved. The rear bench is excellent. The dashboard, centre console and secondary doors show a remarkable level of preservation.
TECHNICAL INSPECTION
Done on 26 March 2025 — RESULT: PASS — valid until 26 March 2027. Two minor faults noted. The mileage history — 125, 372 km in 2020, 126, 196 km in 2022, 127, 862 km in 2025 — shows regular but measured use: less than 3, 000 km in five years.
BEHIND THE WHEEL
Starting is immediate, idle perfectly stable. The V12 runs smoothly and silkily. Automatic transmission is soft and coherent. Power steering light and precise. Air conditioning functional.
A Daimler Double Six that brings together assets rarely found on this model: mechanically overhauled by a Jaguar specialist, fully documented investment, interior remarkably preserved — and the irreversible rarity of a V12 whose production is definitively closed.
