The 1000 Workshop is delighted to offer for sale this 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster, presented in an elegant black specification paired with an interior upholstered in Florida Cognac leather.
First unveiled in 1948, the XK120 is a major milestone in Jaguar’s history. Developed around the new XK straight-six engine, it soon became a benchmark among the sports cars of its era thanks to its performance and the elegance of its lines. With a top speed of over 190 km/ h, it helped cement the brand’s sporting reputation over the decades that followed.
The example we are offering is “matching numbers” and, in 2023, it underwent a partial restoration by a well-known workshop, with costs exceeding €45, 000.
Mechanically, the straight-six fires up easily and runs consistently. The revs rise cleanly, accompanied by the characteristic sound of a Jaguar 6-cylinder.
The gearbox shifts properly: the ratios are smooth and the clutch operates without showing any signs of weakness.
Braking is effective thanks to the conversion to power-assisted disc brakes, which significantly improves day-to-day usability.
The original fuel tank has been replaced with an aluminium unit.
The cooling system has also been brought back to standard: the radiator has been restored and a Kenlowe electric fan has been fitted.
Finally, the exhaust system has been replaced with an Inox version made by Bell, providing a slightly freer tone and increased longevity.
During the restoration, the panel alignments were corrected; the body was completely stripped and several sheet-metal works were carried out to perfect the bodywork before receiving a full respray in this superb deep black. An Epoxy and Polyester primer were applied to ensure excellent long-term durability.
The chrome work has also been carefully attended to and is perfectly bright.
The wheels were repainted as part of the job and four new tyres have been fitted.
The overall presentation clearly reflects the care taken in this restoration and the pursuit of excellence.
The cabin has been given a high-level complete refresh: the edged velour carpets fit beautifully, and every element has been trimmed with care, delivering an interior quality that is clearly superior to the original—fully contributing to the elegance of this XK120.
Finally, its original Bakelite steering wheel is in perfect condition and offers the distinctive driving feel of that era.
