Description
This Delage is quite a sight—an unusual one, too, with its original Torpedo bodywork and the pearled 820 x 120 wire wheels.
This rare Delage DE has been in the Netherlands for more than 50 years.
In the 1970s and 1980s, it was restored by the famous collector, Mr Smits, a passionate enthusiast of exceptional French cars.
The car has been in the current owner’s possession since 2000, and he’s used it extensively through the Pionier Automobielen Club (PAC) in the Netherlands and abroad.
In recent years, the engine has been completely overhauled: the cylinder block has been replaced with a new cast-iron unit, including new valves and new piston rings.
The engine is running perfectly again and starts very easily on the test stand. The ignition has been converted to electronic ignition with a separate coil.
The coachwork, made by J. Besset of Annonay (Ardèche), can accommodate 5 people. The hood is easy to open and close, and when it’s open it’s covered by a tonneau cover. The car is fitted with a twin windscreen, two spare wheels, dampers and a well-finished dashboard.
