A 1933 Roadster Cabriolet, a very beautiful exemplar from the golden days of Automobiles: Exceptional, historic, unique and… meticulously restored from A to Z. It belonged to the family of the famous aviator Louis BLERIOT!
Louis DELAGE was born in COGNAC in 1874, and designed his first Type A vehicle in 1905. He quickly followed with other renowned and successful models, such as the famous D8 in 1930. The “Automobiles Louis DELAGE et Compagnie” set up their factories in LEVALLOIS-PERRET and then in COURBEVOIE in 1912, from which many models blending luxury, comfort and performance emerged, very successful with an affluent clientele. And of course for some confirmed competition credentials with numerous world successes! In 1932, the D6, a six-cylinder variant of the D4 and D8, would appear…
Our extremely rare exemplar is a DS (Series N) 5-seat Roadster Cabriolet produced in 1933, notably with a numbered chassis and engine. And as was very common at the time, the coachwork was built specifically through a factory partnership in a joint venture: the AUTOBINEAU coachwork on a LETOURNEUR et MARCHAND model.
Our DELAGE belonged to the family of aviator LOUIS BLERIOT (1872–1936) who sold it only at the end of 2004 (document available) to a passionate collector and former CHAPRON coachbuilder. The latter then undertook a meticulous and highly quality restoration in the art for many years … This colossal work was carried out with the help of talented collaborators in their respective fields, some of whom can still testify today to the various phases of these operations! The Association founded in 1956 “Les amis de DELAGE” also knows well its owner of the time who was an involved and passionate member.
This Roadster Cabriolet of 4 genuine seats (2 in the cabin and 2 at the rear, see photos and period plan) is equipped with the famous inline-six engine of a little over 2500 cc and 14 HP, with a unique sound: it runs like a clock, and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with reverse, rear-wheel drive. Our exemplar is Beige-Bordeaux with an exceptional and grandiose look, and a very beautiful folding hood!
It is a very comfortable vehicle with a number of features such as drum and cable brakes, a radiator with thermometer and a control for opening the louvers via a mechanical system coupled to a thermostat, an electric windscreen wiper system, three mirrors, a richly equipped dashboard with indicators, an ingenious manual lubrication system for friction parts, etc… The many photos speak for themselves.
It has driven very little in recent years, and is in exceptional condition: in addition to its long and complete restoration already mentioned since 2004, its current owner has taken great care and had maintenance work carried out by a professional, with reconditioning of the wiring, and especially a global overhaul and full engine adjustments since 2022. It starts and runs perfectly and very impressively for its age…

It is not subject to the Technical Control and holds a Collection Registration Card.
