Description
Swedish reliability, paired with the elegance of Italian design—that’s what perfectly defines this superb Volvo 780 by Bertone. The Volvo 700 series was produced by Volvo from 1982 to 1992 and offered in several body styles. In 1985, the Volvo 780 coupé was launched. This model was designed by Belgian designer Marc Deschamps, who was then working at Carrozzeria Bertone. That elegant, luxurious coupé was built there as well.
This Volvo 780, produced in 1988 and fitted with a 2-litre turbo engine, was not only manufactured in Italy, but was originally delivered there too. In 1996, it was imported to the Netherlands by Volvo specialist Schmidt in Gemert and registered in the Netherlands. Long owned by a private individual, it joined the private collection of Volvo dealer Arendsen in 2014. After being displayed for a while in this little mini-museum, it passed into the hands of another Volvo enthusiast. Since then, this magnificent Volvo 780 Bertone has been cared for with the utmost attention.
The car is still in exceptional original condition. This superb metallic beige Volvo 780 still wears its original colour. The paintwork is in excellent shape, with a deep, elegant shine. The chrome and trim are also in very good condition, as are the rubber parts. The original 15-inch alloy wheels are not only beautiful, but also in exceptional condition. This superb Volvo is also fitted with an original glass sunroof.
The interior is still entirely original and in perfect condition. The brown-and-black leather upholstery, beautifully matched, remains in very good condition, and the seats are particularly comfortable. The dashboard is magnificent and in very good order. All instruments function correctly. This elegant Volvo 780 Bertone still has its original Volvo radio/ cassette unit. The seats are fully electrically adjustable and are also heated. The various wood trims are still in very good condition and blend in perfectly with the cabin.
Under the bonnet is a very well-maintained 2-litre turbo engine. This engine produces 155 bhp—more than enough to drive this elegant coupé with comfort and smoothness. It’s paired with a four-speed automatic transmission for slick, seamless gear changes. The car drives with great ease and remarkable lightness (thanks in particular to power steering), and the braking is firm and precise. In short, an elegant, enjoyable driver’s car that perfectly combines Swedish reliability with refined Italian design.
