Red paintwork, black faux-leather interior. This stunning Saab Sonett was delivered new to the United States, before being imported to the Netherlands where it was restored.
The Saab Sonett is an ultra-lightweight, aerodynamic sports car, designed by Ragnar Håkansson and drawn up by Sixten Sason. Its bodywork is made from reinforced glassfibre plastic, mounted on a lightweight steel chassis with front-wheel traction.
It was built for the Production (H and F) classes in the American SCCA championship, and several examples took part in regional SCCA events, earning a reputation for impressive efficiency thanks to their low weight and excellent grip.
The Sonett, however, has since become a niche road car, far from the usual American circuits. Produced in just 1, 610 examples, the Saab Sonett II is a rare car, and this one carries number 1373. It’s powered by the dependable 1, 500cc Ford V4 engine, developing 65 bhp.
A charming detail: the original safety roll bar. This Saab is in very good condition and shows only minor signs of use. The cabin is surprisingly spacious, with a remarkable layout that delivers a driving experience that’s both sporty and comfortable.
