This example of the Sunbeam Lotus Chrysler, one of only 400 produced, remains in exceptional condition. The original black paint, complemented by the characteristic white stripe typical of these models, displays a uniform patina. External elements such as the lights, badges, plastics and alloy wheels are in excellent condition, well preserved despite their 46 years.
Inside, the original white fabric seats, equally well preserved, have been replaced with two OMP "CHAMP" bucket seats providing the driver with all the support needed behind the wheel of this performance machine.
Of course, the original upholstery will be sold with the vehicle, as will the rear bench seat which is still present in the cabin. The leather, from the door panels to the dashboard and gear stick gaiter, presents beautifully and benefits from an attractive patina. The original leather steering wheel is also in excellent condition, as are the analogue instruments which are all fully functional.
The vehicle sits on a sound chassis with no structural corrosion, meeting all balance and safety criteria during our road test. The entire chassis is protected by black underseal, beneath which is mounted an original sports exhaust system allowing the Lotus engine to perform at its best.
This Lotus engine, a 2-litre producing 160 bhp, runs very healthily both hot and cold. Retaining all its original liveliness, it has full service history and presents beautifully within an equally clean engine bay. The 5-speed manual gearbox coupled to it functions perfectly, shifting smoothly and without any issues.
In summary, this Talbot Sunbeam Lotus is in excellent condition for its age. Combining original patina with sporting elements, its chassis and engine will surprise you with their responsiveness, just as they left the factory in 1979. Furthermore, the vehicle comes with a service booklet and numerous invoices.
