The SLS was inspired by the 300 SL of 1954, in terms of proportions, both as a coupe with scissors doors and as a roadster. The interior is very refined but also very functional, and uses high quality materials such as aluminium, leather and carbon fibre. Launched at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show as a convertible, it was followed up in 2012 with the GT version. The 6. 2-liter V8 developed an additional 20bhp, 591bhp to be exact, which improved performance and allowed the car to reach a top speed of 320 km/ h, with a 0 to 100 km/ h acceleration time of 3. 7 seconds.
Torsional rigidity is as good as that of the coupe and thanks to its almost central engine and its transaxle, the car corners flat. Each engine, as it should be at AMG, is assembled and signed by its mechanic, and mated to a 7-speed Speedshift gearbox, with disconnectable ESP backed by large 6-piston front brake calipers and 4-piston ones at the rear. Less agile and aggressive than a real sportster, but still very impressive. The hood retracts in 11 seconds up to a speed of 50 km/ h, and thanks to its neck heater "Air Scarf" the comfort remains assured. The price of the roadster was higher than that of the scissors coupe by some € 10, 000.
The car presented was sold new in Switzerland and it totals a mere 230 km on the odometer! The interior and steering wheel are in black leather with red insert. The engine is signed by the fitter Steffen Hahn, and is accompanied by its notebooks and maintenance invoices. The carbon fibre bonnet, spoiler and lower blade of the front spoiler, the matt anthracite grey paint and the red soft top match perfectly. It combines comfort and sporting behaviour, with a growl of sheer force in its inimitable sound and is already highly collectible because only 350 specimens of both coupes and cabriolets were produced.
