Description

For sale: my Mercedes w124 300e in gold. I purchased this in early 2016, have had work done to make it run nicely recently (doing 1, 000 miles in the last week). However, it's time to slim down the car (barge) collection.

The car is very 1980s, in gold with a brown leather interior, leather steering wheel, heated seats, electric sunroof, and cruise control.

It looks fantastic, as you can see from the photos. Very retro and satisfying.

As usual I am making a healthy loss on what I paid and the bills I racked up without driving very far. Never mind! There are less healthy hobbies.

The good:

1. Drives very well. As above I have been driving it for the last few weeks, including some 300+ mile trips. It is very comfy and surprisingly economical for a car of this type (28 mpg over the last tank).
2. It looks great, a real timewarp when you polish it up
3. It's an early car, with the pretty pre-sacco panel body
4. The interior is just wonderful. Imagine ordering this colour combination in the dealer back in 1988
5. I have done plenty of work for you (ok had my mechanic do!), including distributer and leads, a new exhaust, and 2 new tyres
6. MOT until July 2018. The last bill cleared the advisories

The imperfect - I prefer to be open and tell you everything, though as it's 30 years old this year I am sure this is not unexpected:

1. Most of the paint is original paint, so it is not perfect. There's the odd touched up scratch and small dink. However it looks great when polished up. Just wanted you to know!
2. I purchased a new Pioneer stereo and have not had it connected yet. It fills the hole nicely though
3. The leather interior creaks a little - it looks lovely, but could do with some proper leather treatment. I have made a start and improved it, but there is a satisfying job there for you!
4. The gearknob is some aftermarket wooden one. It's a really nice feeling knob though, so despite me pretending to be disgusted with it, I have kept it
5. The under-bonnet insulation could do with gluing on. I purchased a new one from Germany and it's running about happily with it poked in place under there at the moment.
6. It has had new wings at the front - though these could do with slight adjustment for perfect alignment. I had this done on my 190 and it looked easy (but I didn't fancy having a go myself).
7. The history is limited rather than full, but the MOTs look fine and the car drives as a 100k or so mile car should.

The car is located in Edinburgh at the moment, and I work near the airport so can collect any buyer there.

I will really miss this one, and will probably regret selling it - but I have 4 cars and really do need to rationalise the fleet.
