Description
Opportunities like this do not come along very often. A genuine 2500 mile, unrestored matching numbers and immaculate Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special!
Only made for the US market for 1979, the Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special was the last hurrah of a long line of sporty midsized 2-strokes. Although Yamaha intended the Daytona to commemorate its racing successes of the previous year, this bike ended up as a monument to the 2-stoke motorcycles that defined an era. The Daytona Special was the last air-cooled street 2-stroke sold in the United States. Ostensibly the same as the European RD400F apart from the obvious styling differences, the bike was fitted with a vacuum operated exhaust port closure system to gain US emissions clearance, which was supposed to stop un-burned fuel exiting the cylinders in to the exhaust. This has been removed, however I have all components with the bike.
The bike has been in the UK since 2012 and is UK registered, having only myself and one previous owner. The engine/ chassis prefix for this model is 2VO.
As the bike has been sitting for sometime, I have recently been through the bike to recommission for use. I have cleaned the carbs, overhauled the brakes, replaced the brake fluid front and rear, flushed the engine oil and replaced with new, plus new plugs. The bike is offered in full running condition and rides superbly. The bike will be MOT`d for the new owner.
