The time has arrived to sell our much loved 1955 Traction Avant Big 6h.
Present owner for over 38 years, it has been very much a part of our family.
A rare opportunity to own one of the very very few RHD hydraulic Tractions. Only 76 were ever made in Slough for the English Market, and this is one of the rare survivors.
Used from as a road research car by Mira, it was equipped with a roof mounted water tank, a fifth central road wheel and measuring equipment. It was used to test the skid resistance of the road sufaces, mainly on the A1, by angling the 5th wheel to a degree to provide resistance. This could then be recorded inside on machines.
It did this job for the first part of its life, being trailered to and from sites, so we believe its current 90, 000 miles to be genuine mileage. It was retired and stored for many years. We then got the car in 1981 and began the restoration. Restored back to a standard saloon car, in the original colour combination. We have pictures of it as it was originally, dressed up in its research laboratory guise.
Over the years it has had an extensive amount of work done to restore the car. More details and a photo log of its restoration are available.
It's one of the very rare RHD hydraulic Tractions and has a very interesting history to it.
Now in excellent order, it is ready for its next home. We are conscious to find the right home for this car as it needs to go to someone who will cherish it for what it is.
During 2017, it underwent a full engine rebuild at a well known Traction restorers. It's running and driving just as it should and is a real joy. Being the straight six, it has plenty of power and is a delight to drive. The hydraulic rear suspension works perfectly and provides an incredibly smooth ride, while heigh levelling adjusts to any weight inside the car. This is coupled with longer front torsion beams which really make the most of the rear suspension.
Being the big bodied and big booted car, it has a presence and stance which really make it stand out. Coupled with the English spec chrome, walnut and rear leather interior, it really is a fantastic looking car.
Unfortunately, due to ill health, the time has came for us to find the car a new custodian.
Please only genuine interest. Viewing is welcome and I can answer any questions you may have.
