Description
This FORD Prefect based Special Race Car was built in 1950 by Owner / Driver David H Small.
It uses the front suspension and running gear from a 1947 FORD prefect. The original car it was based upon was dismantled prior to 1950 and the parts used to build this Special. It is a one off vehicle, steel space framed with light alloy bodywork.
D. H Small raced the car in the U. K in the early 1950s and had considerable success (30% win rate) racing against other cars including Colin Chapmans Lotus Mk3 at venues such as Ibsley and Silverstone.
The car was originally 'Aquaplane' engined and ran the modified 1172cc FORD engine.
Car comes complete with its original Aquaplane parts: Cylinder Head, Twin Carbs and Inlet manifold and stamped exhaust manifold (plus Aquaplane dashboard gauges)
Also included is a restored & running E93A FORD engine, plus another dismantled engine. The manual gearbox is also with the car as is the rear axle, propshaft and complete front suspension.
The car is unrestored but almost complete and is a rolling restoration.
The car can be road registered on its original Prefect number.
The car is eligible for 750 MC events and Goodwood / Silverstone Classic eligible too. As it'll have a road registration once restored it can be driven on the road.
The car has been featured in Classic & Sports Car and OCTANE magazine.
Car comes with comprehensive history, photos and race reports to confirm its provenance.
Further photos and information etc on request.
Car is located in UK, 10 miles West of Cambridge.
