Description
Hi here I have a 1978 Colt Sapporo GSR model. There are only a handful of these left in the UK and fewer on the roads. It is a very rare car to stumble across but reluctantly I need the space now.
This car has been very well looked after all its life, I am actually only the 3rd owner! The first owner I have come to learn was a photographer, Bill Orchard, who specialised in the big names on Fleet Street, involving fashion, music and culture. This car has actually had many famous people riding in the passenger seat- to and from sets, allegedly including; McCartney, Harrison, Jagger, Moon, Blondie, Lulu, Bowie etc!
I have owned it for a few years and it has only seen/ needed a light restoration.
The car was very solid, but did need some repairs and fabrication to the door bottoms and sill ends. After the minor welding was completed the car had a full respray in an original blue metallic for a colt. The car was previously a red/ brown colour and has been changed over on the v5c.
This colour realy sets the car off and looks the part now. It had a full respray with doors off, engine bay and boot area have all been done too. A few minor blisters are showing through the paint now- along the front lip of bonnet, and gutter- easy to blow-in and touch up if the new owner feels the need.
I have the original radio present and included, and the car still retains its original and hard-to-come-by wheels.
Interior, well its all original and I would go as far as saying immaculate after a clean, apart from a scuffy and ripped drivers seat (bolster area). I would be looking to get this repaired, fairly straight forward job for a good upholsterer.
The engine is the standard 2 litre lump with twin carbs, sounds good, runs good, drives well and handles great. These realy are nippy cars, loads of acceleration and it realy was a car designed and made well ahead of its time.
So all in all a great classic. Loads of charm, character, and a great investment for the future, as well as a fun car to drive.
You could probably count on one hand how many of these there are left in a road-worthy state, and to find one as solid, original, and well looked after as this one come onto the market is a very rare find.
The car can be sold with a full MOT if the buyer wishes, although it is MOT and tax exempt now.
Any questions are welcome, I do have more photos on request, I can arrange transport on my trailer or via a local recovery firm at cost (just ask for a quote). I would love it to go to a good home- this realy is a reluctant sale for me.
Thanks, Matt
