We are delighted to present for sale this smart Land Rover® 90, presented in NATO green with period military styling. This is quite simply one of the best Land Rover® 90s at this age that we have ever seen – read on to find out why!
Externally, this 90 has all the hallmarks of a quality ex-military vehicle, which is great to see. The recent canvas, bonnet mounted spare, rear bumperettes, military lifting eyes, military bonnet catches and the wheel arch extenders make this 90 look just as it would’ve in service. There are some upgrades, such as the height adjustable towbar and electrics which should prove handy for towing. The bodywork is of a good standard for an ex-military vehicle – much better than most we tend to see in this format. The 750 tyres further add to the look – it stands tall and looks great. The soft-top gives the best versatility possible – they stay warm in the winter as they do not suffer with condensation or icing up and they are super cool in the summer, and are easily removed.
The interior has been upgraded to a pair of lovely front highback seats, with centre cubby box for storage (and for keeping items safely stowed out of sight!), cup holders for drinks and item storage. The convoy switch still exists in the middle of the dashboard, which is pleasing to see. A deluxe interior trim set has been fitted across the floors and transmission tunnel to aid with sound deadening and is of a hard rubberised type, useful to prevent damage & easy to clean when muddy boots have been inside! The rear is unfitted except for a rear load mat, but could house bench seats upon request to increase seating capacity to six including the driver. As this is a military vehicle, it enjoys the added benefit of aluminium door tops, which guard against future corrosion.
Out on the road, this 90 provides an exemplary period driving experience – the 750 tyres give additional gearing, meaning fifth is a nice, long gear that can be used to cruise comfortably. The power steering makes slow speed manoeuvres easy and coupled with the coil springs, gives a ride akin to a modern 90. This is as good a 90 on the tarmac that we’ve ever had – and turns a great deal of heads when you drive along, with admiring glances too. Due to the 1985 manufacture date, this vehicle will qualify for MOT and Tax Exemption at the end of 2025, just five years away. This will give the new owner a very interesting horizon – they will be able to drive around in a coil-sprung, power steering, ragtop 90 whilst not requiring an MOT or paying road tax – a superb treat for the future which will surely add further value and desirability. Furthermore, the low mileage, non-turbo drivetrain should prove a robust, reliable unit that can be maintained by the most basic of mechanics!
In summary, if you are looking for a well specified soft-top 90 with that military charm then this could be for you. With the larger tyres, power steering, comfy highback seats and cubby box, it is hard to find a more pleasant driving experience in any comparable 90 of this age. With the vehicle now qualifying for classic insurance, it should prove cheap to run too (under £200 per annum).
