Description
A groundbreaking British GT with Ferguson Formula four-wheel drive and timeless Crystal Blue elegance.
When the Jensen FF made its debut at the 1966 London Motor Show, it stunned the world. Here was a grand tourer that didn’t just look the part — it rewrote the rulebook. The FF (short for Ferguson Formula) was the world’s first production car to feature permanent four-wheel drive and an anti-lock braking system — innovations decades ahead of their time.
With torque intelligently split between front and rear axles, and the Dunlop Maxaret ABS keeping things in check, the FF quickly earned a reputation as “the world’s safest car” — and one of the most technically advanced GTs of its era.
Visually, the FF stood apart from its Interceptor sibling with a longer wheelbase, squared-off front, and unique side vents that gave it an unmistakable presence. Beneath the elegant Crystal Blue bodywork lay re-engineered chassis rails to accommodate the Ferguson drivetrain — proof that this was no styling exercise, but a true piece of engineering innovation.
This Car – Chassis 119/ 102
Originally finished in Crystal Blue with Beige leather, this early Mk1 FF was supplied through A. R. D. Garage (Cwmbran) Ltd. to its first owner, Welsh businessman Mr. R. F. Arnatt, in late 1968. The car remained in Wales until 2008, during which time it benefitted from careful maintenance and several restorative works including a bodywork renovation, engine rebuild, and overhauls of the brakes and suspension.
In 2008, the car was acquired by The Jensen Museum, which undertook a full bare-metal restoration, expertly refinishing it in its original Crystal Blue and sympathetically restoring the Beige leather interior. The carpets were renewed with a full Wilton wool set, and the car was meticulously detailed throughout.
Purchased by its current custodian in 2014, the FF has since undergone a thorough mechanical recommissioning, including a full gearbox rebuild, brake and suspension overhauls, and further maintenance to keep it in fine running order.
A comprehensive history file accompanies the car, including numerous invoices, photographs, and a CD-ROM documenting the body restoration.
Today, the car presents beautifully, with only minor attention required — the brakes require refurbishment, and the front seat leather requires light repair.
These straightforward jobs have been factored into the attractive asking price, offering its next owner excellent value and an exciting opportunity to finish a superbly restored FF to perfection.
