In the 1950's South Africa was trying to develop a car industry and invited world manufacturers to build cars there.
The incentive was that imported cars would be levied with a heavy import duty. So many manufacturers set up plants including BMC, Ford, GM, BMW, VW and Mercedes. This flat head v8 right hand drive car would have been partly built in USA and final assembly in South Africa which of course is a right hand drive market. With low miles, excellent trim and body this rare car. Assembled by Ford in South Africa where it lived a dry life.
