motodrome offer for sale this 2006 MINI Cooper S (R53) JCW GP1, finished, as always, in Thunder Blue metallic with contrasting roof and red mirrors.
GP1’s are a little different from the standard, although now quite desirable, R53 Cooper S models, and are more of a quasi-race car. They were apparently hand-finished by Bertone in Italy in a limited production run in 2006 of just 2000 cars worldwide, with 459 sold in the UK, all individually numbered.
They all came as per this one (which is in totally original spec down to the stereo) with full aero kit including the large rear spoiler and diffusers, full leather Recaro front seats, rear seat deletion, reduced sound insulation, rear wiper delete etc etc.
Mechanically they have a limited slip diff, aluminium suspension components, and the Tritec supercharged engine is rated at 215bhp with less restrictive intercooler, recalibrated ECU, bigger injectors, and a freer-flowing exhaust, lowered suspension and special light alloys (shod in this case with a matching set of near-new Dunlop RT maxx 2 tyres).
They are about 40kg lighter than standard due to the above measures. Originally, toys like aircon etc were options to keep the weight down, but if you were a bit soft in 2006 you could tick the box for aircon, heated seats, and cruise control to be fitted, all of which this one has. The aircon is nice and cold, and the cruise control works.
On the road, they’re brilliant – just how a quick Mini should be, very nimble with an excellent power to weight ratio. All R53’s are beginning to be appreciated by those in the know, and the GP1 is the daddy of them all.
This one has covered a warranted 102000 miles, and comes with superb history including 10 stamps in the original service book (all MINI dealer bar one in 2016 and the last one, by a Mini specialist, at 100519m in September 2019 including replacing the front discs), and a large folder of bills. The original book pack including the GP1 supplement is all still here. All in a natty Mini-badged holdall.

An absolute breath of fresh air, this. It feels much more alive than a modern performance hatchback, and prices are only going one way. Be quick before I change my mind and keep it for myself.
