Description
Ford built just over 1, 000 of the very special Escort RS1600 at the Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) in the Averly plant, Essex, with only 200 or so being LHD and today probably only a handful of which exist today and even less with their original Type 49 body shell like I have.
This car has been thoroughly inspected by the RS1600 registrar of the AVO owners club and who confirmed it was the genuine article with its original rust free body, it still has the original chassis and AVO plates along with chassis number stamped in the turret. And come with the original matching numbers engine
This car has great history from its build in England in 1972 and onto to its 35 years in sunny Sicily (hence never had any rot) with its 4 owners. The last owner in Sicily decided to slightly modify the car and compete in the famous road hill climb up Mount Etna which he did once a year. It was then sold on to a classic car specialist in Denmark and a subsequent full restoration by them over a 2-year period. This restoration was fully documented, detailed and hundreds of photographs taken. The original type 49 shell was fully inspected and no damage was found and it still had all of its original panels, the only rust was in the drives side foot wells which were expertly replaced. Following the restoration, the car was put into a classic car collection and not used for a number of years.
The car still today looks box fresh, like it has just been restored. As the car had not been used since 2014 I decided to entrust it to an Escort expert to do a full re-commission of all electrical and mechanical items with no expense spared.
The car looks amazing starts on the button and drives like a dream.
