Hazey (short for Purple Haze!) - a rare, very beautiful 1976 Mercedes 206D campervan is reluctantly for sale – sadly, I’m now at an age where the advantages of power steering are starting to outweigh my love of driving a vintage vehicle.
The van:
For anyone unfamiliar with vintage Mercedes 206D campervans, the bodies were built by the German truck manufacturer Hanomag which was bought out by Mercedes in the 1960s. They are extremely strong and well built making them safe and stable and not subject to the rust and reliability problems found in VW campers of that age - in fact Mercedes developed these vans as a luxury version of the VW.
This camper had a reconditioned engine from Sweden two years ago and the bodywork was completely professionally refurbished at the same time, so definitely no rust! It starts first time, runs smoothly and because of the truck chassis it handles brilliantly. It’s 2. 2hp diesel engine is very economical and as it is classed as a vintage vehicle is not liable for road tax, requires no MOT and is exempt from congestion charge all of which are amazing and make it a great camper to keep in the city. My young mechanic said ‘ this van will outlive you and me!”
The leisure facilities:
Hazey has a comfortable extra large double bed, gas cooker, sink, cooler box which could be upgraded to a fridge, new portapotti toilet, shower facility and lots of storage. All the furnishings were renewed last year and are both comfortable and in keeping with the vintage look of the vehicle. There is an electric hookup if needed but the renewed leisure battery also enables wilder camping. A recent ‘habitation check’ report is available.
Hazy is real head turner and is great for enjoying campervan holidays having kept us comfortable in heatwaves and storms! We’re looking for a new owner to love her as much as we do.
