For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 Ragtop in Marine Blue (1977).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT Exempt. Tax Exempt. 750 tyres. Towbar. Recent Canvas and Seats. Previously sold by us in 2015. 7 seats, all with belts. Rear Mudflaps.
We are delighted to present for sale this charming Series 3 Land Rover®, which we have sold previously several times (in 2015 and 2020!). The previous keeper has only owned her for a few months – as he has traded up into a Galvanised Chassis Series 2a rebuild, and well and truly has the Land Rover® bug! The keeper before him enjoyed it for five years – before now moving it on to finance a new house purchase. The previous keepers have both told us us that it was wholly reliable during their ownership – which is nice to note too.
Externally, this all the hallmarks of a “stock” Series 3 – the wing-mounted mirrors, recent canvas, vintage numberplates and silver lamp surrounds give a standard look. The main additions to note is a towbar to allow towing, which is handy and a set of 750 tyres, to improve gearing, increase fuel economy and give a strong stance. All things considered, in our opinion, we think it looks a very period and pretty machine.
The standard feel continues to the inside – there is a set of recent front standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear is fitted with twin benches, all with belts, meaning there are 7 seats including the driver, and they are all belted too. It is a pleasant place to sit. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice the gearstick looks somewhat strange – this is because the most recent keeper was a gentleman with a disability in his left arm, and so it was moved closer to him, so he could reach it better – it has been reverted to standard since the photographs were taken and his modified gearstick has been fitted to his new Series 2a.
Out on the road, the quiet petrol engine pulls well, aided by the larger rubber to give more relaxed cruising. It delivers a pleasing period driving experience, and turns heads whilst out and about in town! The vehicle was driven in by our staff from Harrogate, a distance of 30 miles (including the fearsome A1(M)!) and it performed faultlessly.
In summary, if you are looking for a standard Series 3 Land Rover®, which should prove cost effective to own and enjoy, then this could be for you. With MOT & Tax Exemption (and classic insurance) it should be a solid investment for the future too.
