Here we have for sale a very interesting Land Rover® Lightweight, which we have sold before.
As can be seen from the photos, externally, this vehicle looks reasonably ‘standard’ – the bodywork is straight and tidy, a set of our own 750 tyres are fitted, there is a recent canvas, and lots of period features one would want to see on a ‘good’ lightweight… correct military front bumper, lifting eyes, correct military headlights and lenses, split tailgate, rear bumperettes etc. This gives the appearance of a good ‘stock’ lightweight. A set of pioneer tools are fitted to the rear.
However, what lurks beneath is a modern drivetrain, with the ever popular 200TDI engine, with turbo. This is a powerful unit, and effectively makes this vehicle a fast and agile 4WD. There is ample power to keep up and overtake modern traffic. The other benefits of this popular set up are much increased fuel economy and better reliability due to the modern engine. It starts on the button and is a joy to drive. Parabolic springs have also been fitted, so that not only does this vehicle go well, it also is relatively comfortable for a vehicle of this type.
The interior of this lightweight is of standard appearance, with the battery housed in the central battery box – this is, however, a 12v lightweight so maintenance should not be too complex. It is nice to see the original steering wheel, military fly-screens, heater and front demist and wiper motor cover still survive and in general, the interior looks as it should. Deluxe matting is fitted to the footwells. The rear is unfitted except for a load mat, but bench seats can be added if more seating is required for £350
In summary, if you are looking for a lightweight that has the appearance of a well sorted, stock vehicle but has the added benefit of increased performance, economy and reliability, then we think this is a superb package. With MOT & Tax Exemption, it should also be a cost effective vehicle to own and maintain.
