Val Thorens, Alpe d’Huez, Serre Chevalier. For some, these villages symbolize skiing, snowboarding or sledding. For others, they are above all the formidable events of the Andros Trophy! Held since 1990, this championship was launched by the former French Rallycross Champion Max Mamers and the president of the Andros company Frederic Gervoson. These team sports enthusiasts wanted to create a frenetic competition where the best drivers in the world would compete, while remaining friendly and good-natured. The circuits are short and the action is visible from all the stands. The paddocks are accessible to the public who can meet their heroes, such as Alain Prost, Sébastien Loeb or even ten-time champion Yvan Muller. The championship quickly gained in popularity. Major manufacturers quickly decided to participate, supported by passionate sponsors and drivers eager to experience new sensations in the off-season. Although an AX Sport won the second Andros Trophy in 1991, the small city car struggled to stand out against more powerful German cars the following season. For the 1992, Citroën and the organizers decided to launch the Trophée Andros-Citroën Médias, intended exclusively for journalists, with the winner of each event earning a place in the final in Paris. The car chosen was a standard AX 4x4, stripped, reinforced and fitted with studded tires for the occasion. With an excellent chassis, the journalists had fun throughout the season and never stopped praising its behavior.

The car we are presenting today is one of those cars that took part in the Andros-Citroën Médias Trophy in 1993. Taken directly from the production line and instantly modified for the competition, it participated in seven events: Val Thorens, Cannes-Isola 2000, La Bresse, Andorre-Pas de la Case, Lans-en-Vercors, Serre Chevalier and Clermont-Ferrand-Super Besse. With less than 2, 500 km on the odometer, its sheet metal bodywork is very healthy, still bearing its period-correct Total, Michelin, Pilot and Andros decorations. The bucket seat and the interior are still in excellent condition. In a remarkable state of preservation for a car entrusted to amateurs for a full season, it is ready to head back to snowy tracks.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Aulnay-sous-Bois, at the Conservatoire Citroën, France, on September the 19th, 2021.
