Description
1954 Bentley R Type Harold Radford Countryman
Chassis number: B82XF
Registration Number: PGX660
One of 11 such examples built, this car was ordered new by Lady Helena May Ballie, widow of the philosopher Sir James Black. She specified many of the usual Radford extras such as the clamshell rear hatchback, a wash basin, pipe rack, armrest mounted spirit flasks & stirrup cups along with thermos flask & folding rear seats etc etc.
The car has had a nut & bolt restoration to put the car in perfect condition as commented upon by Marque Speciailst Nigel Sandel who serviced & corrected a few minor issues upon the cars arrival back in the UK. The car has previously been registered in both Switzerland & the USA with papers pertaining to both countries.
To the exterior is traditional smoke green over sage green in perfect condition. The body is as good underneath as it is on top. The interior is stone coloured leather again in perfect order. The car is fitted from new with both a sunroof & picnic tables.
Under the bonnet the car is similarly immaculate with a fully rebuilt engine in show condition. The engine starts readily & runs beautifully in complete silence. The Automatic gear box provides seamless smooth changes making the car a delight to drive. Rarely do we see better ones.
A good histoy file comes with the car detailing heavy expenditure to put the car in tip top order after it arrived back on these shores along with relevant Swiss & American registration papers.
