The fifth generation of the range topping Mercedes-Benz S Class was unveiled in mid 1998. It debuted plenty of new technology including Active body control which adjusted the suspension limiting pitch and dive reducing body roll during hard cornering. Satelite navigation also became a standard feature incorporated into the new dash layout. Offered with a range of engine options including the range topping 5. 4 litre V8 supercharged perol derivative which produced 500bhp propelling the car from 0-60 in under 5 secs and onto a limited top speed of 155mph. This made the S55 the most powerful production saloon of its time.
