I have an absolute beauty for sale.... its a low mileage, super rare Mercedes C36 AMG for sale with 83, 822 miles on the clock (KM’s 134, 900)
If you’re not familiar with the C36 its an interesting car in the History of Mercedes and AMG.
Prior to 1993, AMG was an Independent Company developing and tuning Mercedes Cars. Mercedes bought AMG in 1993 and at that stage became a subsidiary of Mercedes. The first car that Mercedes and AMG jointly developed was the C36 making it the first of the C Class Mercedes AMG’s which eventually lead onto the C63’s etc etc.
Only 5, 201 C36’s were produced World Wide making them a rare car nowadays and they were the first AMG’s to be used as the Safety Cars in F1 in 1996.
In the UK there are currently 70 C36 AMG’s registered on the road.
The C36 is fitted with the M104 straight six engine, which was bored out from 3. 2 litres to 3. 6 and fitted with a whole host of modifications over the standard engine, such as different pistons, revised lubrication, stronger cylinder head etc etc and it ended up producing 276bhp and 0-60 in 5. 7 seconds. Top speed was limited to 150mph, but unrestricted they were able to get upto 170mph…. a fast car for 1996
A high percentage of the C36’s in this Country are Japanese Imports and this is one of them, having come into the UK in 2014. The Japanese imports tend to have a higher specification than the UK supplied cars and nowadays they tend to be the ones with the best bodywork as the Japanese don’t salt their roads.
This particular car is an absolute beauty and has only had 2 owners in the UK, the 1st being the UK Importer and the 2nd being the sole long term UK Owner from 2014, who owns a collection of Mercedes models (the vast majority being Japanese Imports due to specification and condition). Unusually this C36 also comes with a Full Japanese Service History and a detailed UK Service History which includes every single Invoice all from the same Mercedes Specialist, Star Motors of Caversham who have a great reputation.
Its also worth noting that the reason Japanese Imports tend to be very high quality and low mileage is due to the very tough Japanese version of our MOT which is known as Shaken. In addition to this just owning a car in Japan is VERY expensive due to their Road Pricing System.
As a car ages in Japan the Shaken test gets tougher and tougher. The average cost of a Shaken is between $1000-2000…. not cheap and this cost keeps increasing the older the car gets, which is why so many cars in Japan get sold at three years old and Exported all over the World. Most cars in Japan do the bulk of their mileage in the this first 3 years. So to have kept this Mercedes C36 AMG on the road in Japan until 2014, the previous owner would have had to have really looked after it mechanically and to have really loved the car.
CONDITION
The bodywork on this car is genuinely superb and the paintwork is absolutely spot on, as is the Interior on the car. The only thing that needs to be done is for the AMG Alloys to be refurb’d, as the diamond cut element of the wheel is tarnished in places. This will be done prior to Sale.
I'm confident enough to say that this is probably one of the finest C36’s in this Country.
