Exterior: The Mercedes 220S is one of those cars that look absolutely gorgeous driving down the road. And, a black car with a red interior must be the best possible colour combination on any classic car. The paintwork is in good condition showing a little bit of patina. The chrome is also very nice and shiny and free from dents. In Sweden, camping was always a big thing, so the car has a towbar fitted. However, it is easy to remove if you feel that you will be able to fit your luggage in the big trunk. The car is rolling on a set of proper Michelin tyres in good condition fitted 2020. The Mercedes W128 220S Cabriolet is one of those rare classic convertibles that actually look good with the top up. The canvas soft top is in excellent condition with a red convertible cover to match the interior. Underneath the car looks healthy. Older rust protection program has kept the car rust free.
Interior: Mercedes had a fantastic quality on their leather back in 1958. This Mercedes 220S Cabriolet still has the original leather interior in red. Certainly showing some age, but not broken anywhere and still nice and soft. The level of detail on the dashboard with wood and chrome tells you how luxurious a Mercedes 220S Cabriolet was back in 1958. The fully padded soft top looks good also from the inside of the car.
Engine: The power in this Mercedes 220S comes from a later car including the manual gearbox that now has stick shift on the floor instead of column. For me, this was a big plus driving this Mercedes. It has very good power, and I like the shifting with a normal stick much better. I am fully aware of the fact that it is not original. Nevertheless, if I were to drive the car, I would have this over the original any day. Otherwise, the car has very good brakes and feels excellent on the road.
History: This is one of the Mercedes 220S W128 Cabriolet cars that were sold new here in Sweden in 1958. It has been in the same family since 1985. The original spare wheel and jack can be found in the trunk. The Mercedes also comes with a very good documentation of service history and maintenance over the years. Also, along with the car is the first delivery note from Mercedes showing these are the original colours for the Mercedes. The last oil change was in July 2021 and it has not been driven many km since. This a car for you who actually plan to drive your Mercedes 220S Cabriolet. The price has been set with refection to the fact that it is not an original car with an engine from a later model. However, the condition and driving experience is fantastic.
