For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Series 3 in Deep Bronze Green (1984).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT until 26th June 2023. Free Wheeling Hubs. Bonnet Mounted Spare. Rear Mud Flaps. Original Galvanised Cappings. Very late Series 3 built in 1984. Recent Canvas with side windows.
We are delighted to present for sale this soft top Land Rover® Series 3, built in 1984, the final full model year for the Series.
Externally, those eagle eyed amongst you may notice a few differences to the earlier models – such as the fog light, and the fact the indicators are in different positions to earlier Series 3s at the rear. This is a largely “stock” vehicle with a bonnet mounted spare, rear lifting handles, rear mud flaps, deluxe bonnet, defender door mirrors for better visibility, and a set of cross climate road biased tyres which are slightly larger than standard to give better gearing when out on the road – more on that later. It is great to see the original galvanised cappings survive, which is uncommon to see. A recent canvas has been fitted too, to give a fresh look.
On the inside, the original theme continues, with three front standard seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. A seat belt bar has been fitted for over the shoulder, 3 point belts, which is a nice touch for safety. The rear is unfitted with the exception of a load mat to the floor area, but could house bench seats on request to make this a 7 seater vehicle for the whole family, if so desired, for £595. The canvas with side windows affords better visibility for the driver, and gives the interior a light and airy feel.
Out on the road, this old girl drives just as she should, and delivers a pleasing period drive, whilst the tyres give longer gears which makes the cruising experience a more bearable experience. The Free Wheeling Hubs aid economy and limit axle wear. There is a reasonable amount of history with this vehicle (with a spare key for the ignition), along with MOTs which stretch back over 10 years – the mileage currently reads just over 96, 000 miles, and shows an increase of 16, 000 miles in the last 11 years – just 1450 miles a year from then until now. The cross climate tyre also gives lighter than usual steering for the size of tyre, and means a more compliant ride too. There is a bundle of receipts for this car and the previous keeper also maintained this Series 3 regardless of cost with a new distributor, coil, starter motor, alternator, and a reconditioning of the brakes and spring bushes throughout. She was, apparently, much loved and affectionately known as “Stella”!
In summary, if you are looking for a ragtop Series 3 Land Rover®, which is one of the last built, then this could be for you. With over 10 months MOT, it is ready for immediate delivery – and with cheap classic insurance, and upcoming MOT & Tax Exemption in two years time, it should prove cheap to run in the longer term.
