Here we have for sale this 1962 Land Rover® Series 2a, finished in the Limestone colour scheme. This amazing machine has had just two former keepers from new, and due to this, a wealth of history survives with the car that we rarely see. This pack includes some paperwork we’ve never seen before – the original manufacturers warranty pack, options catalogue, the original owners manual and the first free service card. There are also a huge amount of MOTs which go back a long way to verify the total mileage of this vehicle is 162, 787 miles to date. Accompanying this are numerous receipts for service and maintenance throughout this time period, so the sales pack with this vehicle is exemplary (photo supplied).
Due to the vehicles amazing history, we have elected to leave it very much as it was acquired – with all the various patinas and imperfections one would expect of a 60 year old Land Rover® – we think it looks just right as it is, and have presented it as a hard top version for those who may require some security over a soft top. However, if so required, a soft top can be fitted at extra cost. The Cat Flap back door makes this modification easier and affords the first version of the split tailgate, which is very handy. The preparation of this vehicle has intended to retain and protect those period features which make it stand out.
The same is true of the interior – where one finds all the period elements including a larger arctic style heater, which is welcome in the colder weather. There are three front seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells, and door cards to the lower door areas. The rear houses the spare with what looks to be an OEM wheel cover, and has a carpet floor mat to protect the floor area.
Out on the road, this 2a trundles along really nicely. The low amount of owners and constant use and maintenance are really felt in the driving experience. The combination of the 600×16 tyres (the original fitment) and the overdrive mean that brisk acceleration does not mean the sacrifice of a decent cruising speed, and also means light steering compared to larger tyres when behind the wheel.
In summary, if you are looking for a Land Rover® Series 2a with low ownership, a great history, verifiable mileage and period charm, then this could be well worth considering. Some of the documentation has never been seen by us before and probably will not be seen again!
