1965 Maserati Mistral 3. 7-Litre Coupé
Registration no. GGO 495C
Chassis no. 109232
Engine no. 109232
• One of only circa 20 right-hand drive Mistrals delivered to the UK
• Present ownership since 2017
• Offered from long-term restoration
• Used sparingly in present ownership
Maserati have confirmed that this car was one of only 20 or so original right-hand drive Mistrals imported into the UK and that it maintains its original and matching serial numbers. 'GGO 495C' was first registered in October 1965. Unfortunately, little is known of its history prior to its acquisition in 2008 by its previous owner. The latter then spent nine years restoring the Maserati to the point where he was able to take it on a trip to Angoulême with no problems encountered. His records (invoices on file) show a total expenditure of £45, 000, excluding his own labour costs.
The vendor acquired the Mistral in 2017, recognising that the bodywork and ancillary cosmetics required further attention. The last MoT on file (dated 15/ 03/ 2017, six months before purchase) records the mileage then as 12, 882 (likely to be 112, 882). The vendor's intent was to restore the car to its original ex-factory condition. Correspondence with Maserati eventually confirmed that this car left the factory with a unique exterior colour: Azzuro la Plata - a non-metallic Cambridge Blue.
The strip-down revealed a lot of filler and corrosion of the aluminium bodywork. A photographic record of the restoration is on file. The car now presents as it should, with excellent shut lines and the reassurance that all corrosion has been rectified. The original interior was replaced with tan, which suits it (it was Connolly Blue originally). The car also benefits from new correct Borrani 16" wheels and original badging (invoices totalling £75, 000 are on file). Our vendor has covered very few miles in the Maserati as it has spent the intervening years being stripped down and rebuilt. He has decided to sell the Mistral now as it is the least used among his collection and has no space for his young grandchildren.
