Description

1936 FORD V8 MODEL 62
WOODIE STATION WAGON

Beautiful patina with recent Hot Rod mods!

This delightful Woodie must surely be a candidate, for the ultimate family wagon? Indeed, the word Cool probably doesn?t quite sum it up!

Built in 1936 and first registered in the U. K in 1937, this Model 62 was assembled at Fords famous Dagenham works, the timber frame constructed by coachbuilders at the plant, using Ash especially grown on Fords Iron-mountain Estate and shipped to the UK!
An exceedingly rare car, with only two other model 62s, powered by the Dagenham built V8, known to be in existence.

Previously owned by a Ford Employee, this particularly rare model, was sensitively restored during the 1980s and was then pressed into regular use, transporting the owner to Brentwood at Fords headquarters and often being used to promote Fords Motorcraft Competitions as well as being used for Rallies and even a ?prize vault? for the Veteran Car club!

Interestingly, for a car so often beloved in America by the Surfing crowd, the UK ?Woodie? was often seen in more regal surroundings, pressed into use on estates as a shooting wagon and chosen by the Royal family, who owned a 36 Model 68 and a later Pilot , both woodies of course, indeed, the car offered has made two visits to the Royal estate at Sandringham, at the invitation of HRH The Queen mother, to be displayed with her own car.

In later years this fabulous car, has been cherished by its previous custodians and the current owner, has been no less thorough, purchasing the car to use with his family, for outings around the UK, paying homage to those ?Beach boys? with trips to Cornwall and Pendine Sands.
In his enthusiasm for the car, and in order to make the car reliable for the aforementioned trips, the current owner, sent the car to the renowned American specialists , Royal Kustoms, who undertook a huge amount of work, including building a new, high performance V8 flat head engine, complete with Edlebrock heads, Offenhauser manifold and twin carburettors, all period and in-keeping with a VHRA Hot rod aesthetic (The original engine is retained with the car and included in the sale), other jobs attended to recently include an uprated back axle, three speed gearbox, new Firestone tyres, seatbelts and fabricated Hoops, uprated clutch, rebuilt radiator, front and rear shock absorbers and the fuel lines and fittings, an exhaustive list and bills totalling £27, 681. 13 remain on file.
Needless to say, the ?Woodie? now drives very well indeed, leaving me with a huge grin after a recent test drive, effortless power and a wonderful engine note, there truly is no replacement for cubic capacity (the owner advises me that it completes Burnouts with ease, should you so wish!).

In conclusion we have one of the most stylish and rare cars, offered by Ford during this period, with a wonderful patina, but sensitively upgraded for modern use and a car to use and enjoy. Ideal for Goodwood Revival (Just imagine a picnic in the back!) or a thrash down Pendine Sands with the VHRA or of course perhaps at home on an estate, as the Royal family used their cars, or down at the Dunes with your Surfboard, either way an unrepeatable opportunity and viewings are highly recommended.
