Carmichael was the first company to convert a Range Rover to a six-wheel conversion and they were mainly made for the commercial market of fire tenders and rescue vehicles for extra carrying capacity and space for rescue equipment. The 200 gallon glass fibre tank was shaped and mounted as low as possible in the chassis to obtain a low centre of gravity and facility for removal was provided. The semi-rectangular shape with internal baffle plates prevents surge whilst the vehicle is in motion. The Range Rover chassis with a standard driving position offers dual full sized forward hinged doors for easy access for crew and driver. The two-man cab and body forms part of the clean, unbroken styling in line with the water tank incorporated. The seats were standard Range Rover units in PVC covering.
This example is a 1985 Land Rover Range Rover Carmichael Tachr 2 six wheel drive RAF Airport Fire Engine, which has just undergone a very costly £50, 000 total bare metal restoration by its previous owner . Having only covered less than 2000 miles in total from new , the main emphasis during the rebuild was towards , bodywork , paintwork and interior which have been carried out to a very high standard . Its had little use since the restoration, and is therefore still in superb condition . The interior has also been modified and now has electric leather seats, together with ?Wilton? carpets. This is a unique opportunity to own the very finest example in existence of this extremely rare Range Rover vehicle . We have drained out the old fuel and replaced with fresh E5 and it runs very well .
