The Honda GL1000 Goldwing is a classic motorcycle that has left an indelible mark on the touring bike market. Introduced in the mid-1970s, specifically in 1975, the GL1000 was Honda's answer to the growing demand for long-distance touring motorcycles. The GL1000 is powered by a horizontally opposed, four-cylinder engine, which was quite unconventional for its time. This engine configuration helped in providing a smooth and balanced ride, perfect for long-distance cruising. The GL1000 was designed with long-distance touring in mind. It featured a comfortable riding position, a large fuel tank for extended range, and ample storage space for luggage.
The GL1000 was innovative in several aspects. Apart from its unique engine configuration, it also introduced features like a hydraulic clutch, electric starter, and shaft drive, which were not commonly found on motorcycles at that time. The GL1000 laid the foundation for what would become one of the most iconic motorcycle series in history. Over the years, the Goldwing lineup has evolved and expanded, incorporating new technologies and features while retaining its reputation for comfort and reliability. Due to its historical significance and enduring popularity among motorcycle enthusiasts, well-maintained examples of the GL1000 have become sought-after collector's items.
This particular example has had just one owner from new and still has the original owners handbook complete with a couple of pound notes, yes notes in with the handbook. The bike has had a lot of money spent on the engine to recommission it, but the paintwork is original from new.
