Here at John Brown 4×4 – we are celebrating our 20 year anniversary of trading this year! In order to celebrate, we have decided to produce quite simply the highest specification Land Rover® Series 3 Nut & Bolt Rebuild we’ve ever done – all in house – with no expense spared. Writing this advert myself is John Brown Jr, Director of John Brown 4×4 & son of the original founder & now a very much cherished father, grandfather & business partner – John Brown Sr.
We are deeply humbled and privileged to be known as the one of the very best Classic Land Rover® company in the world today – a testament to our staff, the quality of our products, and our customer feedback. 20 years is a serious achievement that cannot be achieved without the collective efforts and belief of a team. We are a close-knit group of real friends – inside and outside of the workplace – and we truly love what we do. There are many companies out there that “talk the talk” but cannot “walk the walk” – especially in the area of social media, where unqualified outfits can look very impressive. We rarely feel the need to prove ourselves – allowing the product to do the talking – but we’ve decided to flex our muscles with this particular Land Rover®!
For this 20th Anniversary build – the entire team were involved and instructed to create the very best Land Rover® Series 3 ever created, no matter the cost, the man hours, or the challenges we may face on the journey – no compromises would be allowed. I am delighted to say they have responded with a product which is simply out of this world – there is no other way to describe it – they have surpassed every expectation, spending thousands of hours to get this Land Rover® built – under myself and John Brown Sr’s watchful eyes and helping hands. Every team member had a say in the drafting, design and build of this product from the ground-up.
Externally – this 1984 Land Rover® Series 3 is finished in GM Corvette Electric “Lightning” Yellow. The photos really do not do justice to quite how stunning it really is – try as we may – including hiring professional photographers for this shoot! Every single panel (and we mean, every single panel) is brand new – built to original specification – and has been painted separately off the car for the highest level of finish. The galvanised cappings have all been shot blasted, re-galvanised and re-fitted with all new rivets – including the windscreen and fuel cluster, both of which cannot be bought off the shelf new today. Every part is new – the galvanised bumper, the wheel arch extenders, the wheels and tyres including the spare, the canvas, the defender door mirrors, the front and rear mud flaps – everything. LED lights with clear lenses are fitted to all lights, to give the ultimate look and the best visibility. A Towball & Electrics pack has been fitted to allow towing. There are companies out there which charge 3 times what this vehicle would cost you for an exterior fitted to this standard, with all new panels – you’ll have to ask them why it is so much more expensive from them.
On the inside, you guessed it – everything is new – deluxe highback seats are fitted to the front, with deluxe matting to the footwells, door cards to the front doors, and a 3 point seat belt bar with “plug & play” interia reel belts. Even the dash is as new – with a hidden immobiliser to prevent theft fitted. A central cubby box is fitted with a stereo & speakers contained within, along with cup holders. This is the very best stereo system solution that we have ever found – USB charging, hands free calling, bluetooth, AUX – you name it – short of a screen, it has it… you can even play sat nav directions through it. The box acts as a “bass port” meaning a much better sound than one expects to hear.. we’ve even fitted a switch to turn the system off to prevent a battery drain should you be leaving it off trickle charge for a longer period. The rear is fitted with twin benches – all with belts – with a gorgeous, fully bespoke rear teak deck for that stunning, detailed finish and to protect the floor. An expensive black canvas with side windows is fitted so everyone can see out as you drive along. An Evander wood steering wheel completes the look – and the mileage clock has been zero’d during the time of build when the dials were reconditioned- the new owner will be the first person to put more than delivery mileage on this Series 3!
One of the huge parts of the brief for this truck was that it must drive as well as possible, with as much attention to future longevity as possible too. Every part we could realistically galvanise has been done – a brand new galvanised chassis, a brand new galvanised bulkhead, galvanised battery trays, galvanised cappings, mud guards the list goes on, and on, and on. This is a Series Land Rover® which will outlive every member of staff who works here, including me. All drivetrain items were reconditioned in house – the gearbox was fully reconditioned, as was the engine, with all new gaskets and seals, and even painted in all original colours. We’ve uprated all items wherever possible – a bigger alternator to take the strain of a cold morning when blasting tunes, whilst heating the screen, whilst using full beam – a brand new Weber carburettor for maximum performance – and all new ancillary items for maximum reliability “out of the box” wherever possible… Parabolic Springs for maximum ride comfort, 750 Chevron tyres for the ultimate compromise between road and off road abilities… etc. Fully reconditioned axles, new swivels, new seals – which have all been painted to original OEM standards – are fitted too.
In this advert there are literally as many photographs of the vehicle on top, underneath & under the bonnet as the website loading times can support – we have more if you need them – but I am sure you can see what we mean by the level of finish achieved…. even down to the brass steering components! The result is a Land Rover® which delivers the best drive you can ever possibly imagine with the original engine set up. It is faultless. We are very confident that the Bonnet and Underneath look crisper than when leaving the factory when new – and we are sure you will agree.
In summary, this Series 3 has been a labour of love for the whole team. We adore it, and we hope you do too. We are confident there isn’t a better one currently for sale anywhere in the world today. We are only making one of these to celebrate our anniversary…. and this is build 001…… so it is the only opportunity to have one. This vehicle is now 40 years old too – so that means MOT exemption & Tax Exemption, classic insurances & with everything to a new standard, with our major mechanical fully backed in-house warranty – it is the definition of the closest to trouble free motoring as is possible to achieve in what was a 40 year old Land Rover®!
