Jaguar's first significant upgrade of its sensational E-Type sports car occurred in October 1964 with the launch of the 4. 2-litre version.
From mid-1967 the E-Type began to incorporate some modifications, these interim cars becoming known as the 'Series 1½' although there was never a fixed specification for this unofficial 'model'.
Manufactured on 6th July 1967 during this transitional period, '435 XKE' is well known in E-Type circles and took part in the E-Type's 60th anniversary celebrations at Shelsey Walsh in 2021. This car has numerous characteristics of the Series 1: toggle switches, polished cam covers, single cooling fan and covered headlights to name but four. Nevertheless, '1E 21589' is identified as a 'Series 1½' in Jaguar Archivist Anders Ditlef Clausager's book Factory Original Jaguar E-Type.
A UK-supplied matching-numbers car finished in its original colour scheme of Opalescent Silver Blue with Dark Blue leather interior, the car was restored in 2017/ 2018. Works included fitting a new fuel tank, floor pans, sills and front sub-frame, while upgrades include electronic ignition, Coopercraft brakes, thermostatic radiator fan, stainless steel exhaust, uprated front torsion bars, and uprated Polybush radius arms. Related receipts for all parts totalling more than £12, 000 may be found in the substantial history file, which dates back to the late 1970s and also contains other bills running into tens of thousands of pounds together with a quantity of expired MoTs and tax discs and a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Also included in the sale are a quantity of interior trim parts, two door-cards, front and rear windscreen surrounds and a pair of front bumpers. According to our vendor, this handsome E-Type coupé can be enjoyed 'as is' or further improved as required.
