We are delighted to present for sale this 2000 Land Rover® Defender 90 SWB, which has been previously completely rebuilt by hand to the highest standard by Outlander Custom Vehicles in Edinburgh – a very highly regarded firm. John Brown 4×4 are now delighted to be able to offer this vehicle for sale to the market. This is quite simply one of the very best Defender rebuilds we’ve ever seen and the spec is enormous, along with a comprehensive history file of builds and receipts for the rebuild, which shows it was completed between 2014-2017.
Externally, this Defender 90 is designed to be a homage to the “best of” Land Rover® – with Keswick Green colour scheme, HUE 166 motifs, LED lights all round, Heritage Grill, Side Steps, Wolf-style modular wheels with BF Goodrich All Terrain Tyres, Towbar and Electrics, NAS Rear Step, Side Opening Tailgate – the list goes on, and on, and on. This Defender was painted “body off” before being assembled and what we’ve tried to capture throughout our many videos and photos is the sheer level of attention to detail – even door hinges have been galvanised, with all the colour coded silver door handles and grills completing the look. It is, in our opinion, one of the most stunning Land Rover® Defenders we have ever seen. This Land Rover® comes with both full soft top & bikini hood configurations – so the new owner can decide which to “run with” and then change to the full soft top for later in the year. We can’t think of a summer truck which is better than this & we are sure you will agree!
On the inside, similar great care has been taken – with two front outer seats which are heated, alongside a colour coded dashboard, cubby box with cup holders, and a full acoustic matting set to keep the noise down and give a premium feel. A bluetooth & USB Stereo with Speakers has been fitted, which is also capable of charging phones, which is a nice touch. A full set of Exmoor Trim seat covers completes the look. In the rear, a bulkhead removal bar has been fitted behind the front seats – this affords a huge amount more space to all occupants, looks great and turns this truck into a proper family wagon. A pair of rear bench seats has been fitted in the rear, which affords seating for six including the driver, all with seat belts for safety. The side opening tailgate with the British BP logo is a work of art, and a heavy-duty colour coded rear mat protects the floor against damage.
Even the numberplate is sensational – Defender Kiss Kiss! It has been valued at four figures, with many postulating it could be worth as much as £3-5000.
Out on the road is where this TD5 really shines through though – we’ve been privileged to have many of these in our time, but this one is an absolute peach – the exhaust is incredible and almost sounds like a V8 petrol – it is the best sounding diesel engine we’ve ever heard without exception. The fully reconditioned engine with uprated cylinder head gives plenty of “poke” too – you’ll run out of gumption before it runs out of go! BF Goodrich All Terrain Tyres are fitted throughout, which means the best road holding possible, and poly-bushed new suspension means the very best possible ride, too. We’ve taken loads of videos of this vehicle driving – which can happily be supplied… we have to keep them off the website to keep loading times acceptable. Power Steering means driving is easy and trouble free too. This Defender will be supplied with a brand new 12 month independent MOT to the new keeper – it has recently had a complete brake overhaul with new discs and pads this year too, so it stops well to go with the speed. This car not only comes with an immobiliser, which if not activated will present starting, but the invoices show the fitment of a high-level Vodafone tracker which we have had experience with in other vehicles – this allows full tracking 24/ 7/ 365 and is the ultimate deterrent against theft, and includes a back up battery to prevent tampering and attempts to cut its power. The new owner can be confident, then that their Land Rover® won’t be going walk about any time soon.
When you’ve been in business as long as we have, you realise that every now and again, a vehicle comes through that is truly a very special machine and this is one of them. We’d love to keep it – but we’re not a museum, and we’ve fallen into this trap before of having lots of personal vehicles, which don’t pay the bills and allow us to progress and keep doing what we are here and love to do. One always has to be cautious to not overplay expectations when selling vehicles and many dealers we see fall foul of this – calling every car “amazing” and “incredible” and “the best they’ve seen”. Those who’ve followed us for any length of time will know we like to stick to the facts and be straight down the line – and so they will know writing an advert as glowing as this one means this really must be special – and in our opinion, this really is.

We think this Land Rover® Defender shows outstanding value for money – especially when certain companies ask three to four times more for a product which we believe as a whole, is likely to be inferior to this one, both in longevity and in the driving experience it is able to portray. When you then consider the money spent, the fact this has been future proofed and will likely outlast us with the galvanised parts fitted, and the fact it can take the whole family – this surely has to be one of an elite club of very exclusive Land Rovers®… and based on the reactions of the public as we rode through the town centre square – this one is sure to get you all the right attention!
