We offer for sale this Ford GT40 Replica built by GT Developments The manufacturer GT Developments is said to have produced only 350 replicas of the Ford GT40 MKI. The history of the English manufacturer GT Developments is linked to that of KVA whose boss, Ken Attwell, had been the production manager at the Ford factory in Swansea (UK). The Ford group had crashed a genuine GT40 during the filming of an advertising film and asked Ken Attwell to help them repair it. In return Ken Attwell took mould impressions of the original car and was then allowed to use them to build replicas.
A cross deal was struck between KVA's Ken Attwell and GTDevelopments boss Ray Christopher for the latter to supply structural sub-assemblies to KVA, and it was this link to the original car, via KVA, that made the GTD superior to its rivals. What's more, Ray Christopher had signed an agreement with Bob Lutz, then head of Ford of Europe, for the supply of original parts. The seriousness of the products designed by GT Development is undeniable, since the brand was recognised in the 1980s by the prestigious SMMT (The Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders) as a manufacturer of special cars in its own right... a recognition that was not the case for most of the small sellers of kit replica cars.
The model shown here was built in 1992 and modified for track use in the UK. It arrived in France in 2023, was re-commissioned and presented for roadworthiness testing. It is now registered and roadworthy. Right-hand drive with right-hand lever.
The racing configuration is still in place and will require fine-tuning for track use (no homologation in progress). The engine is a Ford 351ci Cleveland with dry sump, oil pump and lateral reserve, and engine oil radiators are fitted. Double aluminium fuel tank with double fuel pump circuit. The gearbox, identical to the original, is a ZF 5DS-25 (rare to find) and is also fitted with an additional cooling radiator.
Braking is provided by AP Racing calipers, new AP Racing front discs, new rear discs, made to measure at Danielson, and Pagid RSL1 brake pads. The engine has been drained (Motul 300V Le Mans).
