Description

This MG Maestro 2. 0 EFi was first registered on 15th December 1986 and is presented in Silver Leaf Metallic over a flint grey velour interior with red accents. Features include 14-inch ‘cheese grater’ alloy wheels, colour-coded door mirrors, a rear spoiler, power-assisted steering, central locking and a sunroof. Under the bonnet resides a 1994cc O-series injection engine producing around 115bhp through a five-speed manual transmission. Back in the day, the Maestro 2. 0 EFi had a claimed top speed of 115mph and a 0-60 mph sprint time of 8. 5 seconds - rather impressive for a hot hatch of its era. Often overlooked, this model rivalled the likes of the Golf GTI and Escort XR3i, and it's now a rare find, with fewer than 30 still on the road in the UK.

Currently displaying 58, 389 miles, this Maestro has been owned by a British Leyland enthusiast for the past four years. During their time of ownership, the car was exhibited at summer shows and has been stored in a dry garage. It is now being sold freshly serviced and with an MOT valid until 27th May 2026. The cambelt was last replaced in March 2021 (approximately 2, 000 miles ago), and the car also benefits from a recent new fuel pump, battery, power-steering belt and front brake discs, pads and tyres. Next year, it will be MOT and road tax exempt.

While this Maestro is an honest and very usable classic, it is not a concours contender. There are certainly areas where improvement could be made, but previous owners have clearly valued preserving its originality. The body panels appear flush, and while the Silver Leaf paint is presentable, there are blemishes throughout and areas of bubbling. The original, model-specific ‘cheese grater’ alloy wheels are shod with good rubber all round. Inside, the cabin is in very good condition overall, with no apparent tears to the seats or carpet. The original radio/ cassette remains in situ, and both the steering wheel and gear lever show minimal wear. The headlining has come loose - typical for this car - and the sunroof handle is damaged. The boot and engine bay are in commendable condition, and the undercarriage appears well-maintained, benefiting from waxoyl protection. The car drives really well, with the 2. 0 injection engine running strong, and gear changes feel smooth without any crunches or synchro issues.
